Game Review: Until Dawn (PS4)

What is Until Dawn?

Until Dawn is a survival horror and interactive drama game for the Playstation 4 only. It's developed by Supermassive Games. The game takes place a year after an accident kills twins, causing the brother to find closure by inviting everyone back to the same lodge where the incident takes place. Since the sisters were killed following a prank, everyone is automatically on edge, which makes a series of happenings all the more terrifying, including a psycho killer, supernatural hauntings, monsters, aggressive wildlife, and more jumpscares than you're prepared for. I couldn't play this game on my own in the dark.

What's So Special About It?

As mentioned above, it is a horror game although most of its elements aren't that unique with the twists, settings, scenarios, and characters. But it does add some revolutionary aspects.
Fans of Bioware games are familiar with dynamic character relations and choices that impact the way the rest of the game is played. Until Dawn does this too, except they crank it to eleven. Some simple relationship choices you make will impact how said character (and others) will react to some of your choices from that point to the end. You choose not to confront Matt's girlfriend Emily to her possible unfaithfulness? She treats him like dirt for the rest of the game, even when he tries to save her. There are choices that force you to pick one character or another, really testing how you play and making it extremely difficult to have all potential survivors actual survive.
The other feature that I really, really like is the Totem system. Based on your current playthrough (the choices you've made, who's still alive, etc.), an acquired Totem will give you a brief glimpse of a scenario that may come to pass. Some might be a warning to avoid a potential death (you'll notice there's a lot of fire involved so you want to avoid that), or decapitation (which is a lot harder to avoid threats of). You'll have other Totems that will give you 'guidance' where you can recognize a better outcome to a situation where you may automatically attack an element. Oh yeah, while the game gives you multiple choices to a specific scenario, there are times where it's best to just not choose anything at all. It might literally save your life.
Having to make a Choice
Having to make a Choice

How's Gameplay?

The gameplay is very simple. A lot of the time you'll be moving a character from point A to point B, collecting shiny clues or totems on the ground that light up under your light source (clues will also open up information for characters to have different choices in the future, potentially saving lives). You'll engage in situations that require you to make a choice by choosing either A or B.
Then, there's the more interactive parts. Characters will try to run, climb, shoot, and otherwise survive in more tense moments, and you'll be required to help. There are a lot of QTEs (Quick Time Events) that require you to hit the correct button at the correct time to avoid consequences. Some of these consequences can be minor, such as simply replaying the same scenario until you get it right, while others will lead to missed windows of opportunities or death.
There's also the terrifying 'Don't Move' sections. Thanks to current gaming technology, the PS4 controllers have motion sensing capability. Without warning, you will be given a prompt not to move to avoid detection. This can happen out of nowhere, either from walking around or during a series of QTEs. Apparently I'm not very good at them, having to resort to literally hold my breath even though that didn't always happen.
While you might not imagine it, the game becomes significantly more difficult as the game goes on, in particular after the first real twist. Some of this is because of previous decisions, making some of your scorned characters leave others to their death. Other QTEs and 'Don't Move' moments are far more unforgiving, making characters pay with their lives. It adds to the general feeling of a horror film as everything begins to fall apart, and maybe my frustration with it is a purposeful design. I wasn't just frazzled during gameplay, but afterwards too, especially with the credits showing me everyone's death once again.

Rated M for Mature

It's a proper horror game, so you figure it would be rated M. It's scary, so don't let your young kids watch it unless you're fine with them sleeping in bed with you. There's a considerable amount of profanity (believable for a bunch of graduated high schooler-aged kids up in a cabin). However, the sexual content (aside from liberal use of the f-word) is fairly minimal past the stage of suggestive. There's no nudity, and aside from one female character attempting to unbutton her shirt and another potentially in her underwear for a chunk of the game (and another in a towel), that's as far as the sexual content goes.
There is a good deal of violence as well, just so you're warned. Is it excessively gorey? Hard to say, as there's an option to say that gore unnerve the player and we chose not to (my wife and I sometimes find it hard to enjoy entertainment mediums if there's a sickening amount). Still, characters are decapitated, animals are gutted, and faces can be smashed in, as well as a single character suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. The better you play the less you see of it though!
The choices you make not only decide who lives or dies, but it also especially impacts characters' relations with each other.

Closing Comments

I am not a horror gaming fan. However, I was intrigued by this game's various element. My wife actually rented it from a Redbox for $3 and we spent two full days playing through it, finishing the game off in about 7-9 hours ( I didn't time it). It was exhilarating and a lot of fun and, if we had purchased it, playing through it again with new knowledge and attempting different tactics to keep people alive (or possibly kill them all), would have been well worth it. The visuals and graphics are strong, especially with the characters whom I find to be some of the highest quality to date. Everything else is purposefully creepy, as one would assume. You're likely to have recognized faces belonging to Hayden Panettiere, Rami Malek, and Peter Stormare simply by the trailers.
Can I recommend this game at its current $60 value? Maybe. If you're a big fan of horror games and having to deal with choices that matter in the long run, you'll enjoy this game's experience and science. If you plan on delving into it, finding different playthroughs and the consequences of every choice, there's significantly more value in it. I might suggest waiting for it to become a bit cheaper. However, my wife and I played it for $3, enjoyed it greatly, and were content to put it back while looking up on Youtube any elements we might have missed. I usually don't rent video games with demos, gameplay on Youtube, and so forth so readily available, but I would recommend you rent this game if it sounds like something you're interested in.

5 Good Ps4 Games for Kids

5 Good Ps4 Games for Kids

It’s a good game of course; this won’t come as much of a surprise to any individual who played Rayman Origins one of 2011’s best platform games a very unlikely return for a character mostly written off. With such a solid foundation, Michel Ancel and his team at Ubisoft's Montpellier studio haven't reinvented the wheel. What they've done is taking an already wonderful wheel and polished it into something remarkable.
Like Rayman Origins this is a platform game, very good game continuously delivering gameplay nuggets, every hop is a test, every obstacle a trail, some will have to be cleared fast and others will give you some time to think past it either way no stage is designed to just run around jump and complete.
Rayman Legends remain the same on the Ps4 with only higher resolutions and a new function to take screen shots and share them with friends, the game also loads much faster on the consoles and PC, but this didn’t really make me feel different about Rayman, I like the game for the art and style not as much about the technology it uses.
Kids will enjoy this game even if they fail a lot it, it’s the type of game that will require them to think a little, I think in co-op mode the game is enjoyed the most in single player the game can be a little frustrating.
Some may think of this as a close rip off to the Mario games, but with Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams oozing with creativity and nostalgia Ds fans will see familiar game play elements with some classical tunes re-imagined as you play through the game, though don’t expect mastering this game with ease, Giana Sisters was easy same as New Super Mario Bro’s you could gain lives fairly easily, taking out game-play for the ones seeking a challenge.
When playing Twisted Dream prepare to die, prepare to die a lot, it’s mandatory to play the normal difficulty that will unlock Hardcore and Uber-Hardcore mode after completing certain challenges, the game features a lot of checkpoints, through the game so losing a level is impossible the amount of times you die however will negatively influence your level (I know it’s hard when I die 12 times on a single level) With others a lot more.
Don’t let the difficulty put you off from getting your kid this game, having a very fun game to play that is hard is sometimes all you need to enjoy a game much longer than you anticipated to, like Rage for example, was fun and enjoyed it loads but it pretty much lasted only a few hours with the story before finishing it then all you can do is watch it die slowly while playing the multi-player modes.
In each level you collect diamonds on your way to the goal. Collecting all the diamonds in a level nets you a star ranking. The ranking also factors in the amount of times you die. In order to unlock the boss levels, you must earn a specific amount of stars this might seem easy, but eventually reaching the last boss you might have no choice but to go back and replay certain levels to get a better score otherwise you will never complete it, over all this game looks amazing and won’t think twice to get my kid this for a good challenge.
Inspired by the Peanuts Movie You will take Snoopy on an adventure in this platformer game on your adventure to find Charlie Brown and other Peanuts characters, each level is gorgeously painted similar to the style of the movie, each level is fun and keeps you playing, there is a wide variety of levels, but the most fun part is collecting costumes (representing Snoopy’s many egos) to get around obstacles and other challenges in Snoopy’s day dream adventures, each costumes has its own abilities and power ups some will even let you fly.
There are plenty of levels to keep you busy none of them being really hard, however all of the levels I have seen so far is very artistic and fun to play, this alone makes it worth getting.
Octodad is a family-friendly game featuring an octopus-man struggling to keep his identity secret from his human family. There are some extremely funny moments in the game as you try and hide your identity from your family as an octopus and prove to an evil sushi chef that you are human.
you will need to control Octodad from various obstacles, including mundane tasks and simple, yet difficult challenges, the game features some puzzles to and I haven’t had so much fun doing them than any other game that will keep you playing while keeping you entertained, this easily makes up for the graphics as I don’t like it as much, I have seen better.
Playing as cute, yet ugly in way lab animals? Count me in, especially when co-op is so much fun solving puzzles with friends just got better with up to 4 players, each can pick an animal with unique abilities that will help you escape the crazy scientist’s laboratory, you can pick from four animals, the Bat can push objects with his voice, the Rabbit can attract objects with his large ears, the Hamster can freeze air and the mouse can teleport at will.
The game can be enjoyed alone but for the most fun experience nothing beats co-op with family and friends to enjoy the game together solving puzzles as a team.
This conclude our list be sure to read some of our other lists for fun games both for PlayStation and Xbox.

Top 4 Best PlayStation 4 games for kids

Top 4 Best PlayStation 4 games for kids

What game is good for your kids?

As always when it comes to kids there can really only be one outcome will this game or toy be good? Like always they will have one of two reactions they love it or well they hate it, we will only show the top 5 games that many kids want to play and enjoy and maybe this will be for your kid to.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

If your son is into lego building blocks and love to collect them including the love of superheroes and the villains then this will make a great addition to his small or big collection of Lego products.
From 100 characters to unlock and to play with including Spider-Man, The Hulk, Galactus. Wolverine, Deadpool and Black Widow the game will be loved as mostly all famous villains and super heroes are introduced here in Lego Marvel Super Heroes, a character for each fan to enjoy.
Each character has there own skills and unique abilities to fight against the terror in New York, ranging from the Abomination, Loki and the hunger of Galactus and so much more, the game will introduce fun interactive puzzles for your kids to enjoy, with laughter to accompany them with all the humor in this game.
The game runs smooth and is easy enough for a 6 year old to play, the combat mechanics is fun and don't introduce complicated button smashing like in the older Dragon Ball Z PlayStation 2 games.
Graphics has improved allot from what I can say, though don't expect a world of a visual future after all this is still just a Lego game for your kids.
I self was addicted to playing the game for at least 4 hours until I realised this is kids stuff and moved on to playing something else, though my grandfather enjoyed the game for much much longer that really came shocking to me as he never has touched a control in his life. So we are 100% sure this will make your kids day.

Sack boy is back with more customization with his friends included, the game feature the same game play elements, if you don't know by now the game is a plat-former and thus some kids might not like this as much or simply not at all, make sure to check the video and see for yourself before buying this product.
The game has gone many improvements especially on the visuals, though there are many added minigames that you will encounter playing the main game, like painting or solving a few puzzles before you can continue to the next area while doing so you will unlock new parts for Sack boy and his friends that can be stitched on just for fun or for other benefits, each friend comes with their own unique skill to use during game play.
Not much is known about the game play, but the little seen, though the developers promised much replay value and the largest handcrafted game to this date.

Skylanders Trap Team Starter Pack

Skylanders Trap Team starter pack will be the way to go for your boy or girl, though at the end of the year you might be flat broke collecting the figurines, the game has an interesting story much like the previous titles, you need to save Skyland from the evil forces as the name state you can now trap villains and then play with them, though this wont save you a cent as these will be figures to collect as well though at a much cheaper rate than an actual character.
You will need to buy a new starter kit that will include the new game to play, 3 Dark Skylanders characters, 3 traps, 1 two sided collectors poster, 3 sticker sheets with secret codes and 3 trading cards.
It might now seem like a lot of money but once your kid wants more to play with and becomes a new fan you will have to buy new characters, traps and collectors cards for them to play with so on the long run this single game can cost you a lot more then multiple games bought over a few months time.
I will admit that this game is fun rally fun with a lot of funny moments and will keep your kids and teens entertained for days, weeks and even months as new characters will be released and of course the main thing to do here is collect them all.

Rabbids Invasion

Yes Rabbids Invasion finally came to consoles, if you like to see your youngsters entertained and active then this will be the game for them, its fun and addictive, the game has 20 TV like episodes to play through with a variety of interactive things to do, like paint, dance, puzzles and much more to invade the Rabbids world.
The PlayStation camera makes it fun and entertaining for the entire family to enjoy not just your kids, the game acts and feels just like the series on tv so expect much comedic scenes and laughter a must get game.

7 Most Difficult Games Like Dark Souls (Series) Where Everything Wants To Kill You

7 Most Difficult Games Like Dark Souls (Series) Where Everything Wants To Kill You

What are some games like Dark Souls?

Released as spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls series, Dark Souls has managed to reinvent the RPG genre, focusing on the brutal and unforgiving experience where there is no room for any mistake.
Dark Souls (series) takes place in the sprawling world of Lordran - a city filled with countless threats around every corner. Scattered round in this city are bonfires, your only friend, serving as the save points.
The games like Dark Souls mentioned below emphasize on the unforgiving but engaging combat system and a pretty dark atmosphere. If you want a real challenge, take a glance.
Dark Souls III :Collectors Edition - PlayStation 4

1. Bloodborne: One of the best PS4 exclusive games like Dark Souls

From Software, the studio behind Bloodborne, is known for creating some really difficult games. Take the Souls series for example – it never forgets to punish you for simplest of mistakes. No matter how skilled you are at handling combat, you are going to die, a lot. Yes, it’s irritating to die so often at the hands of invading players and burly, ugly monsters, but you will find yourself back for some more action right after taking a whooping. This is what has made Dark Souls such a darling to hardcore gamers.
And I am glad to report that Bloodborne stays true to what makes Dark Souls such a punishing and addicting experience. You will fight monsters in abandoned buildings, dark forests and grey seahorse – all different locations with different types of enemies. You will have to adapt to the varied environments, which keeps things from getting boring.
Overall, Bloodborne is a masterpiece meant to be uncovered slowly. Take your time with this beautiful PS4 exclusive, discovering as many of its secrets as you can and killing all the bosses without taking much of a beating (hopefully).
Bloodbornbe does best what Souls series has manages to do over the last couple of years – when you finally conquer an enemy, that that gets adrenaline pumping through your veins, making you feel empowered and giving you a sense of satisfaction like no other game can manage to do.
Bloodborne Collector's Edition Strategy Guide: Buy Now from Amazon

Lords Of The Fallen - A game heavily inspired by Dark Souls

Tired of dying frequently in Dark Souls? Do you want to play something that’s challenging but less punishing? Lords of the Fallen might just be the game you are looking for. It took me more than 20 minutes before I died for the first time. Yes, it’s a bit of surprise for a game that clearly takes its cues from Dark Souls series, but it feels more accessible and enjoyable as a result. It’s more arcady than I would have liked. But is it fun? Hell yeah!
With its engaging hack and slash combat centered round spells and combos, and an addicting risk-based reward system, Lords of the Fallen cements its place as one of the most accessible games like Dark Souls.

Demon’s Souls - One of the most unforgiving games like Dark Souls

Just how hard is Demon’s Souls? Is it harder than Dark Souls series?
That’s pretty difficult to tell without actually playing this game and seeing how unforgiving it is. For starters, you can’t pause the game at all. That should sum up nearly everything about Demon’s Souls approach to delivering the action. You ‘d have to already map your weapons to the d-pad slots as you won’t get any chance to do the same once you are up against the enemies. And even that is not enough to come out victorious. You will almost always need some luck to get past some of the toughest bosses in Demon’s Souls.
Did I tell you that you’ll lose all your cash and experience? Unless you can go all the way back to the place where you died and reclaim your soul with all the enemies you slayed are waiting for you again, you are not getting them back.
There is no second chances here, no way to prevent losing all your experience points. You will die a lot in this game, learning a new lesson every time. Death is a part of this game, and sooner you accept it, the better your gameplay experience will be.
If you are looking for some punching games like Dark Souls, give Demon’s Souls a shot.

Dragon’s Dogma

With its vast scale of world and the option of hundreds of characters to choose as your companion, Dragon’s Dogma often feels like an offline MMO. Its style-mixing is reminiscent of games like Dark Souls, Skyrim and Shadow of the Colossus, successfully blending all the good elements of these games while leaving out the fluff. The result is an action-RPG with a lot of open-world adventuring and monster-slaying.
After the intriguing prologue, the story loses its focus and becomes a bit repetitive. But it more than makes up for an unimaginative fiction with its engaging combat system. Although you start off by choosing between a fighter, mage or ranger – each having their own skillsets and abilities, you can create hybrid classes, becoming an assassin or a fighter archer. It totally depends on which skills you are investing your points on. You can be whatever you want to be. If you want your mage to be able to shoot arrows, by all means go for it.
To sum it up, Dragon’s Dogma has the polish and scale of a great action RPG game like Dark Souls. It’s one of those RPGs that suck past everyone’s radar somehow. Nevertheless, now is your chance to play it.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - One of the best open-world games like Dark Souls

Part of the reason why I love The Witcher 3 is how easy it makes everything look. Unlike some games that scream and beg to notice how clever and amazing they are, The Witcher 3 simply says “ain’t no big thing. There is much more to it than you have seen.” The Witcher 3 simply refuses to acknowledge the feat it has achieved. The developers CD project Red seems more than content to hide its awesome mechanics, letting players explore everything and realize what a gem it really is.
Time and again, I had to stop and remind myself of just how good a game I am playing right now. The Witcher 3 is so good at everything that after a while. The characters and quests never feel like mere fillers, flowing quite naturally. It’s after a while you begin to realize that the simplest of decisions you made earlier in the game have some of the biggest repercussions on the whole game world. The decisions are not easy to make either. There are some complex and twisted choices you’ll have to make knowing that it will have some sort of impact on the world for sure. For example, I got an innocent man hanged even though I didn’t intend to.
The sowrldplay is not an unforgiving as Dark Souls, but it still is pretty solid. Sure, you will die here too if you come for a fight unprepared, but if you are good with swords and magic, it won’t be as frustrating as games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
The Witcher is hands down one of the best RPGs of recent times, taking the crown from Skyrim. It’s hard to go back to other RPGs and not compare them from Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. If you are looking for some immersive games like Dark Souls that draws you in its game world for hours, The Witcher 3 should be right up your alley.

Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor

With its free-flowing combat system and amazing animations, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor would make you feel like a superpower, but not overpowered. There is always a possibility that some minion will spate your head from your limbs and will be promoted to the next rank. But you’d get a chance take your revenge when you respawn and meet him again. He will most likely hurl a couple of insults at you, reminding you of the humiliation last time around when he managed to kill you.
Shadow of Mordor is different from tons of other action RPGs, giving villains and equal opportunity to shine and have a distinct personality. This is what makes encounters with them so amazing. You never know their strengths and weaknesses. What works against one enemy might backfire against the others. For example, if one of the bosses is afraid of fire, he will run away screaming. But for others, it might as well be an invitation to fight, which makes them a tougher opponent to slay.
Swordplay is where it really excels. It just feels like brawls in Batman games, managing to be instantly satisfying and challenging at the same time. There is also some basic stealth action, which enables you to take out everyone silently. Although, they could have done more with stealth, it still is pretty fun.
You can take any approach you want. Be a Rambo or silent assassin; it’s fun either way. Rushing through the campaign will take you 12-15 hours to finish, but real fun lies in exploring the world and dominating the warchiefs that can easily take around 40 hours.

Legend of Grimrock - One of the best indie games similar to Dark Souls

Only a few steps into the dark dungeon of Legend of Grimlock, the tension begins to build as you explore further. The mysterious earthquakes and sounds of ugly creatures somewhere near the vicinity do a good job of letting you know that you should be prepared for anything that can come across you out of nowhere. You never know what’s waiting for you just around the next corner.
The dungeon feels alive when the torchlights cast shadows across the stone walls and surface, making this indie gem a beautiful experience throughout the whole game. Underneath its pretty gorgeous sheen, however, lies an unforgiving role playing game, reminding us of early days of PC gaming. You shouldn’t miss out on it, if you are looking for some indie games similar to Dark Souls.
